Mathematical Sciences Institute was founded in the year 2003 with an objective to promote quality teaching and first rate research in mathematical sciences. The institute would identify young talent and encourage them to pursue a career in mathematics and its allied fields. It is a non-profit private initiative and it does not award either any degree or diploma. The institute encourages collaboration with institutions and individuals who believe in its objectives.

The Institute operates under the Tamraparni & Adhyapak Education Society (Trust) which has the broad goal of education and philanthropy.

The academic structure of the Institute consists of Director and Deputy Director. Prof. T. Venkatesh (Retd. Professor of Mathematics, Rani Channamma University, Belagavi) is its current Director. The Istitute has a host of visitors as its members. Prof. T. Veena of Vasantrao Potdar Polytechnic, a founder trustee is the visitor of the institute. Administrative architecture consists of an Administrative officer with supporting staff to run the administration of the institute.
The institute has organized several conferences, workshops, symposia on themes relating to pure and diverse areas of mathematics and various out-reach programs for the high school students(see events page). The thrust areas include Analysis and Optimization, P.D.E’s, Differential geometry, Algebra and Algebraic Geometry, Computing, Theoretical studies in Physics, Computer Science, Quantitative Finance, Economics, Math Biology and Quantitative Social science.

MSI Inaugural Function

On January 23rd 2003, a formal inaugural of the Mathematical Sciences Institute was held Prof. D.H.Rao Principal, Gogte Institute of Technology as the Chief Guest inaugurated the institute and wished every success in its endavours. He also promised to extend every help that is possible from his institution for growth and of the Institute. The function was presided by Prof.H.V.Kumbhojkar a former Professor and Chairman, Department of Mathematics Shivaji University, Kolhapur who was also the Founder Honorary Director of the institute. In his presidential remarks he lauded the efforts of people in the establishment of this Institute. He reminded that India has contributed to the knowledge of mathematics in the ancient time and it was India that presented Ramanujan to the mathematical community. Quoting a sanskrit phrase he believed that if we safe guard righteousness then it would take care of us.
Prof.S.S. Bhoosnurmath the then Chairman, Department of Mathematics, KUD delivered a special lecture on Riemann Hypothesis arranged on this occasion. The function was attended by the faculty and students of the Department of Mathematics of the then KUPG Centre. Prof. H.H.Uliveppa, Administrator of the Post Graduate Center was present on this occasion.
